Could the addition of 'trust' and 'distrust' buttons alongside the usual 'like' option on social media help control the spread of misinformation? A new study suggests that it's possible. The study, conducted by University College London and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US, showed that people who have the option of trust and distrust button on a social media post tend to use it responsibly and become better informed in the process. Laura Globig, lead author of the paper, explains more about their findings to Newsday's James Copnall. (Image: A hand holding a smartphone, Credit: Yui Mok/PA
