Aylsham church does its bit to fight swift decline

Chris Goreham

Available for over a year

The number of breeding swifts in the UK has fallen by 60% since the mid 1990s, according to the British Trust of Ornithology. To help arrest their decline, St Michael's Church in Aylsham has installed 30 nest boxes in its tower. Patricia Grocott, from the Aylsham Swift Group, hopes the next wave of migrating birds will use the boxes over the coming weeks.
