How Beyonce is helping this London-based Nigerian restaurant

Newshour

Available for over a year

It's been a tough few years for many independent restaurants. First the pandemic and then a sharp rise in the cost of labour, food and energy in many parts of the world. Lots of places simply haven't survived or they're teetering on the verge of closing; among them, a small Nigerian restaurant called Chuku's in Tottenham, north London. Despite rave reviews for its West African take on tapas, it's been touch and go. So imagine how pleased its owners were when they heard they'd won a $10,000 grant from the pop megastar Beyoncé. It was part of her pledge to support small businesses along every stop of her world tour. Chuku's owners, brother and sister Emeka and Iffy Frederick, tell us more.
