Why parts of Europe are experiencing a heatwave

Newshour

Available for over a year

A ferocious heatwave is searing parts of Europe. A red alert warning has been issued in 10 Italian cities and Spain, Germany and Greece are also affected by the high temperatures. Last year, more than 60,000 people have been recorded as having died in Europe because of the heat. Tamsin Green is a meteorologist and she told Newshour's Tim Franks why things are so bad in southern Europe. (Photo shows a pharmacy thermometer marking 41 degrees heat in Turin, Italy.
