Decision to release killer Colin Pitchfork from jail was 'irrational'

Ady Dayman

Available for over a year

The Parole Board's decision to allow child killer Colin Pitchfork to be released from prison has been found to be "irrational" and will be reviewed again. Pitchfork was jailed for life for raping and strangling Lynda Mann and Dawn Ashworth in Leicestershire in 1983 and 1986. The 63-year-old was released from jail in 2021 but was arrested and recalled to prison a matter of weeks later due to concerns over his behaviour. He was then granted parole again, with the decision made on 15 June. However, concerns about the danger he posed caused Lord Chancellor and Justice Secretary Alex Chalk to intervene, making what is known as an "application for reconsideration" on 5 July. South Leicestershire MP Alberto Costa has welcomed the news that Pitchfork has had his release from prison put on hold. Mr Costa - who has been campaigning on this topic since he became MP for the area in 2015 - has been speaking to 麻豆社 Radio Leicester's Chance Litchfield.
