Why I'm swimming all 315 miles of the Hudson River

Newshour

Available for over a year

A swim for 315 miles, more than 500 kilometers, the length of the Hudson River, from its source in the Adirondack Mountains to where it meets the Atlantic Ocean in New York City. That's the latest challenge British-South African endurance athlete Lewis Pugh has set for himself. He already made a name as the first person to undertake a long distance swim in every ocean of the world, including the length of the English Channel. His goal - to highlight the dangers to the world's waterways. He's aiming to end his swim just as world leaders gather at UN headquarters for the annual General Assembly where the High Seas treaty is expected to be signed. A week into his current mission, Newshour's Lyse Doucet asked him how he felt. Photo shows: Lewis Pugh in the Hudson River. Credit: Lewis Pugh Foundation
