Newsday

Available for over a year

The fallout from the infamous kissing incident after the final of the Fifa Women's World Cup in Australia continues in Spain. Spain's World Cup win was overshadowed by the country's football federation president Luis Rubiales kissing forward Jenni Hermoso, which she said was not consensual. Now Jorge Vilda, Spain's Women's World Cup-winning head coach and a close ally of Mr Rubiales, has been sacked. Most of Vilda's coaching staff resigned and 81 players refused to play for Spain in the aftermath but Mr Rubiales himself has refused to resign despite a provisional ban from Fifa. Former Spain head coach Jorge Vilda says being sacked, weeks after winning the Women's World Cup was not fair. "In sporting terms, I am going to accept all the criticisms, but on a personal level I think it has been unfair." The Spanish football broadcaster Semra Hunter, says, "Deep meaningful change hasn't happened yet." And gives her take on the latest developments and the women's game in Spain.
