Gaza ground offensive will 'take several months'

Newsday

Available for over a year

Gaza's health ministry says more than 5,000 people have been killed since Israel began bombing the territory. This is Israel's response to the more than 1,400 Israelis killed when Hamas attacked communities near Gaza on 7 October. An Israeli ground offensive is expected soon. Yaakov Amidror, a Major General in the Israeli army reserves and a former National Security Advisor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Newsday that the ground offensive ''will probably take several months.'' The Israeli forces ''will first go into areas where there are Hamas headquarters and underground tunnels and afterwards clear the streets by killing Hamas members and destroying its infrastructure.'' He said ''It will be very challenging but they have trained themselves for such an operation and there is no hesitation about this.
