The prime minister of Iceland, KatrÃn Jakobsdóttir, has joined a national women’s strike to protest against gender-based violence and pay discrimination. It’s not the first time that Icelandic women have walked out. The last major strike in 1975 is credited with bringing about huge societal change. Newshour’s Rebecca Kesby speaks to Kristin Astgeirsdottir, one of those at the protests in 1975, and an organiser of today’s strikes.
