In the early 90’s, after it’s hand-picked by Hollywood director Kevin Reynolds for a starring role in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, visitors flock to see the tree at Sycamore Gap. The dawn of the internet and smartphones make visiting it a perfect day out for anyone seeking picture-perfect views to post online. But the morning after a stormy night in September 2023, the famous tree is discovered cut down. Si King meets some of those left bereft by the news.
