Why are 600 historic buildings 'at risk' in London?
Available for over a year
10 sites across London have been added to Historic England's at-risk register because they face decay and neglect. In total, there are 599 sites across London on the register which identifies sites that are most at risk of being lost as a result of "neglect, decay or inappropriate development". The Church of St George in the East, in Stepney, and the Upminster Tithe Barn in Havering are among those considered to be at risk. However, an "exceptional" 41 sites across London have been removed from the register thanks to various interventions. So why are so many buildings at risk and what can be done to save them? In November, Â鶹Éç Radio London's Robert Elms found out from Historic England's Simon Buteux.
