Fourteen Israeli hostages and three foreign nationals have been released by Hamas. In exchange, Israel has released 39 Palestinian prisoners. Among those freed is 17-year-old Noam and his sister, 15-year-old Alma. Their mother, Yonat, was killed during the Hamas attacks on October the 7th and their father, Dror, is presumed captured. Ahal Besorai, is Yonat's brother. He spoke to his nephew and niece via video shortly after their release. He told Newsday: “They seem fine from the outside…Alma had the most amazing big smile and glittering eyes when she saw me, which melted me and brought tears to my eyes and then I had a longish chat with Noam, just to find out really what happened…We thought the return of the children would shed some light over (Dror’s) whereabouts but they were separated from the outset.” He added: "When they arrived in Israel, the first piece of news that they encountered is that their mum had been murdered by these Hamas terrorists. They were not aware of it…so this was a very, very difficult first encounter with reality for them to know that their mum is no longer alive.” (Picture: Shows a woman holding a flag of Israel and a portrait of 15-year-old Alma, held hostage in Gaza since the October 7 attacks by Hamas militants in southern Israel, during a protest asking for the release of Israeli hostages in Tel Aviv on November 25, 2023.
