Cockermouth free food cafe for the hungry. Claire Ascroft at the Lanes Cafe and Bistro in Cockermouth, has started a 'Pay it forward' scheme for locals who genuinely can't afford to sit down and eat a meal. It's paid for by her customers, who pledge five pounds, and it can be redeemed if you pick up a slip on the way in, and you use it to claim your free food. There's a wide choice including popular favourites like a soup and a sandwich, sausage egg and chips, and a jacket potato with a choice of fillings.
