Irish novelist Paul Lynch wins the 2023 Booker prize

Newshour

Available for over a year

The winning novel, Prophet Song, is a dystopian vision of a totalitarian Ireland. Set in Dublin, it tells the story of a family grappling with a terrifying new world in which the democratic norms they are used to begin to disappear. Lynch said Prophet Song was inspired by the Syrian war and refugee crisis, but as he explained to Newshour's Tim Franks, he doesn't actually consider himself to be a political writer.
