Why this former refugee-turned-poet is attending COP

Newshour

Available for over a year

The annual UN climate summit in Dubai is a vast gathering of politicians, diplomats, scientists, lobbyists, and campaigners. This year, there's at least one poet there too. Her name is Emi Mahmoud. But she's not just a poet. She's a former refugee from Darfur, Sudan who grew up in the United States, a climate and peace activist, and a goodwill ambassador for the UN refugee agency, the UNHCR. Emi spoke to Newshour's Tim Franks from the COP climate talks in Dubai and she told him why it's important she's there.
