The homeless shelter who struck gold with Spike Lee shoes and an act of generosity

Not by the Playbook

Available for over a year

A pair of rare sneakers left anonymously in a charity鈥檚 donation bin selling for $50,000 at auction could be an Oscar winning storyline and it鈥檚 one that does have its own Hollywood connection. The sneakers that were donated to Portland Rescue Mission were one of only five pairs made for film director Spike Lee, who wore a pair when collecting the Oscar for best adapted screenplay for the film 鈥淏lacKkKlansman鈥 in 2019. Who put the gold-painted leather sneakers in the homeless shelter's donation chute remains a mystery. The proceeds from the auction funded clothes and meals for people they help. Erin Holcomb from Portland Rescue Mission tells Sportshour鈥檚 Caroline Barker this story of generosity. Image: A photo of the gold Nike Air Jordans 3s which were donated to Portland Rescue Mission.
