New statue for Coventry

Available for over a year

Coventry University has commissioned Blitz survivor George Wagstaffe to create a new sculpture that will take centre stage in a new peace garden. George said that his latest work was inspired by his experience of the bombing of the city during World War II. After witnessing the rebirth of Coventry as the 'City of Peace', the new bronze Phoenix Tree sculpture will explore themes of death, rebirth, and resurrection. Wagstaffe's other city centre works include the Phoenix in Bull Yard and the Naiad, located in the Upper Precinct. Â鶹Éç CWR’s Vic Minett spoke to George and artist Michaela Gyetetvai about the process of creating the artwork.
