On the 18th of January 1974 housing campaigners, initially disguised as security guards, entered the controversial Central London tower block Centre Point and started an audacious occupation of the building. The campaigners - including the future treasurer of the Labour party, Jack Dromey - were protesting the housing crisis and chose Centre Point a symbol of what was going wrong in London. By this point the block had been empty for a decade after it's speculative developer Harry Hyams refused to accept tenants for individual floors, instead holding out for a single occupant. The protest started on Friday and by its final day on Sunday it was hundreds strong. Â鶹Éç Radio London's Ross Ryan revisits the Â鶹Éç report from the time, and hears from those involved, 50 years on.
