Russian forces take Krokhmalne

Newsday

Available for over a year

Russia says its forces have taken control of the village of Krokhmalne in north-eastern Ukraine's Kharkiv region. The announcement from Russia's Defence Ministry at the weekend was echoed by a Ukrainian military spokesman who confirmed that Kyiv's forces had withdrawn from the area. Vadym Halaichuk is a Ukrainian MP from President Volodymyr Zelensky鈥檚 party. He told Newsday: 鈥淚t鈥檚 a very, very small village of less than 50 people and that鈥檚 pre-war numbers; five or six little houses which were bombed to the ground and that鈥檚 the Russian strategy, which causes Ukrainian forces to leave the towns.鈥 He said: 鈥淭he front is very dynamic in recent months鈥ifferent positions have been changing hands in a matter of days or even within a day is not unusual...and yes, the delays in supplying weaponry and supplying ammunition have been one of the reasons why it has become so difficult for our troops to hold down ground.鈥 (Picture: Shows the site of a recent missile strike, in Kharkiv, Ukraine, on January 17, 2024.
