'It's emotionally a gut-punch to see him there'

Newshour

Available for over a year

The espionage trial of the American journalist, Evan Gershkovich, has begun in Russia, 15 months after he was first detained by the authorities. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reporter is accused of collecting secret information for the CIA about a Russian tank maker, which he denies. The WSJ's chief digital editor, Gráinne McCarthy, has been telling Newshour's Tim Franks what it was like seeing her colleague in the dock in the city of Yekaterinburg.
