World's oldest known cheese discovered

Newshour

Available for over a year

Scientists in China say they've discovered the world's oldest known cheese -- from three and a half thousand years ago. They analysed dairy samples found with Bronze Age bodies that were buried in the Xinjiang region of western China -- and found fermenting microbes from kefir cheese. Newshour’s Fuchsia Dunlop is the author of many books on Chinese cuisine and its history . . most recently "Invitation to a Banquet -- The Story of Chinese Food" ... James Menendez asked her if she was surprised by the discovery? (picture: dig where ancient cheese was discovered; credit - Danilo Family)
