Kwajo Tweneboa

1Xtra's Future Figures

Available for over a year

As Part of Black History Month 1Xtra once again celebrates its Future Figures. Future Figures is a way to recognise those members who are giving back to the Black community, and a time to celebrate the countless acts that are taking place up and down the country today by those who are helping to create the black history of tomorrow. Kwajo writes: After watching my father die from cancer while living in unfit housing, I have become a vocal champion for improving the conditions of the U.K.鈥檚 poorest tenants. Aged just 25 I have gone toe-to-toe with some of the U.K鈥檚 biggest housing providers, attacked Labour and the Conservatives over their own policy plans, and earnt the respect of Housing Secretary Michael Gove as a result of my 鈥榝earless advocacy鈥. I once said that I was 鈥渢oying鈥 with the idea of one day becoming an MP, but declined an MBE, as I could not accept the honour for campaigning on a crisis that should not exist. And most recently have met Prince William and the Homewards Foundation to discuss how to end Homelessness. I speak with thousands of ordinary people up and down the country that have and continue to momentarily fail, witnessing the worst ends of the housing crisis which often ends in tragedy. Two things I have made clear on my journey is 1: uncovering the truth and holding organisations and individuals to account. 2: Things can change but it starts with political will and Government cooperation/investment in the right areas.
