'Our flood defences worked'

Available for over a year

The £2.5million scheme was unveiled in September 2024 and was used for the first time only a month later, following heavy rain in October 2024. The gate at Toronto Close in Lower Wick is part of a scheme to reduce the risk of homes flooding from the River Severn and River Teme. Resident Ray Grundy tells Kate Justice how he spent years campaigning for the project - and how successful it has been, adding an additional metre for water levels to increase, before the road gets flooded.
