Cannock’s forgotten poet Nancy Foster

Hidden Black Country

Available for over a year

The poet Nancy Foster lived and worked in Cannock a hundred years ago, and wrote poetry about Cannock Chase, Hednesford, WW1, and the plight of the local miners. She was a prolific writer who sadly developed a progressive illness in her teens, and took her own life aged just 20. The team at the Museum of Cannock Chase have created a poetry trail, where you can find out more about Nancy and hear some of her poems, brought to life by Staffordshire’s Poet Laureate Scarlet Ward, while walking through the beautiful local area. Our Creative Lives Producer met the people who brought Nancy back to our attention, and walked the trail with Nancy’s nephew Malcom Foster.
