Nicolas Cage on David Lynch: 'A true American surrealist'

Newshour

Available for over a year

The American filmmaker David Lynch - whose works include the surrealist cult classics Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet - has died aged seventy-eight. Lynch's death was announced on his official Facebook page by his family. The movie maker revealed last summer he was battling emphysema, a chronic lung disease, following what he described as "many years of smoking". In 1990, he won the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes film festival for his film Wild at Heart - which starred Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern. Nicolas Cage spoke to Newshour's Tim Franks and described how the film-maker was "irreplaceable" and his work helped the actor fall in love with cinema. (Picture: David Lynch.
