'The Army's gay ban led to my mental breakdown'

Available for over a year

73-year-old Claire Ashton from Uffington joined the Army in 1969 when it was illegal to be gay in the armed forces. Clare said: "They thought I was gay as trans hadn't crossed their radar all those years ago". Consequently, Claire suffered prejudice and abuse during her time in the army. She tells her story to Â鶹Éç Radio Shropshire's Rob Trigg.
