Hogstow Mill in the Hope Valley is hiding a gruesome secret. In February 1683 the mill was the scene of a tragic murder that has inspired folklore and ballads across the centuries. The famous diarist, Samuel Pepys, even wrote about the barbaric act, “urged by her father to marry her, he most wickedly and barbarously murdered her."
