The Martley tree older than dinosaurs

Available for over a year

The Wollemi Pine dates back 90 million years and was thought to have become extinct, until it was found in a remote valley in Australia in 1994. There are thought to only be 100 individual trees left in the wild, but one of them can be found in a garden in Wichenford, between Worcester and Great Witley, and is now bearing fruit for the first time. Incredibly, owners Pamela Thompson and husband Alistair at Pear Tree Cottage, which is open on various dates as part of the National Garden Scheme, say they bought the tree many years ago, on a shopping channel! Alistair Binney reports.
