Inside The City - where Medieval custom determines who votes

London Uncovered

Available for over a year

The City of London is an oddity within the English system of local government, having escaped reform over the centuries unlike every other city and borough in England. Only people with the Freedom of the City can stand for election, whilst workers retain voters rights - something that was abolished in 1969 everywhere else. It's safe to say the City of London has its own way of working - 麻豆社 London's Tony Grew has this guide to the role livery companies, aldermen and common councillors have, along with the additional rights offered to workers in the so-called Square Mile.
