When Barcelona-born Londoner Rafael Hortala-Vallve bought his first photobooth for the wedding of his friend in 2009, he already had grand plans for the future of analogue photography. Following the wedding, he was eager to put the 1960s machine into public use, and shortly after found a long-term spot for it at Shoreditch restaurant Pizza East, where diners could use it to create happy memories of their nights out. After that, a second booth was purchased for spare parts and soon more followed, as other venue owners asked to host the booths in their bars and restaurants. 15 years later, his company - AUTOFOTO - has more than a dozen fully-functional, beautifully retro, analogue booths around London (pictured at Coal Drops Yard). And now, AUTOFOTO is marking the booth’s 100 year anniversary by taking part in an exhibition at Somerset House.
