Worcester apartment building evacuated
Available for over a year
Residents in a large block of flats were forced to leave due to safety concerns. The fire service issued a prohibition notice to the building management company, meaning that the people living at Barbourne Works in Northwick Avenue had to find alternative accommodation. Simon Cusack, Group Commander at Hereford and Worcester Fire Service tells Elliott Webb how there were fears over residents' ability to escape, should a fire break out. First Port housing which manages the site says it's working closely with local councils to support the temporary relocation of residents. In a statement, Worcester City Council said: "We supported our fire and police colleagues last night in managing a prohibition of the Barbourne Works Apartments. We provided rest centre facilities through the evening and arranged emergency accommodation where it was requested. 鈥淭he rest centre has now closed and we will continue to support those in emergency accommodation.鈥
