Alfie Steele’s grandparents: ‘Disappointed’ in police response
Available for over a year
Relatives of the murdered Droitwich boy say a new report showed West Mercia Police officers were 'covering themselves'. Alfie was killed in 2021 after suffering a catalogue of horrific treatments inside his home. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has released findings in to the way the force handled the repeated calls they received about Alfie, saying officers 'lacked professional curiosity'. Nicola Goodwin hears from an emotional and angry Paul and Aliana Scott, Alfie's grandparents. Detective Chief Constable Rachel Jones tells Tom Edwards how the force has given extra training to hundreds of their frontline officers, to try and spot the signs of child abuse, and say 'significant changes' have been made to the way they work.
