Farmers face crisis as drought announced

Available for over a year

Dairy farmers are facing a crisis, spending thousands of pounds feeding their cattle grain that should be saved for the winter. This year's long, dry spring - the warmest and sunniest on record in 132 years - has forced many farmers to take unprecedented action. The East Midlands has now officially entered drought, with the Environment Agency announcement following England's driest start to the year since 1976, leaving many rivers across the Midlands at extremely low levels. Matt Gable from the Environment Agency gave us an update on the drought, Climatologist Abi Waring from Leicester explained how we can expect more weather extremes, and Tom Duffin from Stonehurst Farm told Â鶹Éç Leicester's Ben Jackson that he's never known a season like this for the lack of rain.
