Why are we seeing so many early acorns?

Available for over a year

Conservation charities say the hot, dry summer is putting extra stress on our natural environments, including trees shedding leaves early to conserve internal water levels. Worcestershire Wildlife Trust's Beth Norris and Rhona Goddard tell Kate Justice the drought conditions are less likely to harm our oldest trees, whose roots often lie deeper under ground and are hardier than younger trees. They say the conditions have resulted in a drop in food sources for ground-level insects, and that there are knock-on effects from ponds drying up.
