In the UK, there are over half a million cases of sepsis-related illnesses every year with an estimated 48,000 deaths. It's a life-threatening reaction to infection. It can strike anyone, at any time. But, if spotted early, it’s often treatable. Awareness saves lives. In 2015 Katie Luker became seriously unwell with sepsis. After her recovery she changed her career and trained to become a nurse at Leicester's De Montfort University, with the goal of becoming part of the Deteriorating Adult Response Team at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. Now, she helps to educate others on the importance of sepsis recognition and treatment. Katie spoke to Â鶹Éç Leicester's Ady Dayman.
