The riverside town's council has been refused flooding insurance for the first time ever, meaning it faces going in to this winter with no protection on its buildings. Zurich Municipal Insurance has told the council they will no longer insure any buildings the council owns against flooding - including heritage assets such as The Regal Theatre, The Pump Rooms and Tenbury Pavilion, due to their history of flooding claims and the likelihood of future 'events'. They've also failed to find any alternatives, meaning from 01 October 2025, at time of publishing, those buildings won't have insurance against rising water. Tom Edwards reports. A statement from Zurich said: 'We’re aware of the devastating impact flooding has had in Tenbury in recent years, and how necessary robust flood defences are to reduce the frequency and severity of these incidents.'
