SEND parents 'let down' by the education system
Available for over a year
Parents and carers gathered at County Hall in Nottingham to highlight issues their children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities are facing. 'Every Pair Tells a Story' is a national campaign where families lay out their child's shoes to represent a child they believe is being let down by the system. 125 pairs were put in front of County Hall. The Â鶹Éç's Ash Geaney went to meet some of the parents. Nottingham City Council says “We understand how important it is for families of children with special educational needs and disabilities to feel supported, listened to, and involved throughout their child’s education journey. “We’re committed to improving our SEND services and recognise there is more to do, and we’re continuing to listen to families" Meanwhile, Councillor Hana John, the County Councillor responsible for education and special educational needs and disabilities, said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to hear families’ stories. I will ensure the experiences shared help shape our SEND improvement journey, and work with the Director of Children’s Services to improve communication and escalate urgent cases, especially where children are at risk. "Thank you to the parents who spoke up—their honesty and courage highlight the urgent need for change."
