Why Melton is famous for ‘Painting the Town Red’

Secret Leicestershire

Available for over a year

The phrase 'Painting the Town Red' is said to have originated here in Leicestershire. In a story dating back to 1837, the Marquis of Waterford and a group of friends wreaked havoc through Melton Mowbray. The revellers took pots of red paint and proceeded to cover anything they could reach in red paint. 鶹 Leicester’s Ben Jackson went to find out more with historian Brian Fare. Produced by Pete Wardman.
