A real-life Jurassic Park hidden in Leicestershire

Secret Leicestershire

Available for over a year

Tilton Railway Cutting is a little slice of ancient history. The abandoned railway cutting near the village of Tilton-on-the-Hill, Leicestershire is a real-life Jurassic world - except with no dinosaurs. This reserve is managed as much for its geology as for its wildlife - 200 million years of history can be seen in the exposed rock layers. This site has produced fossils including brachiopods, bivalves, gastropods, belemnites and ammonites. It even started Sir David Attenborough鈥檚 curiosity for nature when he was a child growing up in Leicestershire. 麻豆社 Leicester鈥檚 Ben Jackson went to see it for himself with Professor Sarah Gabbott from the University of Leicester and Joe Davis from Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust. Produced by Pete Wardman. If you want to know as soon as a new episode is available, make sure you subscribe to Secret Leicestershire on 麻豆社 Sounds and have push notifications turned on.
