Ross-on-Wye's Aberfan rescuer

Available for over a year

Former police officer Eric Owen was 'different' after returning from the stricken Welsh village, according to his daughter. In 1966, a colliery spoil tip collapsed onto the Welsh mining village, engulfing Pantglas Junior School and nearby homes and killing 144 people. Of those who died, 116 were children. Lynne Hunter's father, who later lived in Worcester, was one of those who were drafted in to assist on site for nine days, a part of 150 officers mobilised to aid with keeping crowds away from the wreckage and supporting the families.
