Dorothy Kuya: A Lifetime Fighting for Equality

Ngunan Adamu

Available for over a year

Born and raised in Liverpool 8, Dorothy Kuya began challenging racism and inequality when she was just a teenager. She went on to become a pioneering community relations officer, campaigner and educator, dedicating her life to tackling discrimination and ensuring Black history was recognised. Dorothy was instrumental in campaigning for Liverpool to confront its connections to the transatlantic slave trade and helped pave the way for the International Slavery Museum. In 2021, a University of Liverpool hall of residence was renamed in her honour, replacing the name of former Prime Minister William Gladstone, whose family had profited from slavery. Discover the remarkable story of a woman who helped change how Liverpool remembers its past.
