Guaido calls for more Venezuela protests

Newsday

Available for over a year

The Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, has given a defiant television address, after a day of mass protests against his rule. Sitting alongside military commanders, he saluted the loyalty of the armed forces. Mr Maduro said only a small group in the military had sided with the opposition leader, Juan Guaido -- and their plan to oust him had failed. The number of people who’ve died in Mozambique due to cyclone Kenneth has risen to 41 says the government. Aid agencies say the country needs urgent life-saving relief to deal with the aftermath of the storm, which made landfall in the province of Cabo Delgado where Kenneth hit last Thursday. Tensions are rising in Sudan. The military council in charge of the country told protesters it will continue to negotiate with them – but will not allow any more chaos. In response, more people have flocked to the main protest site outside the military headquarters.
