Some countries struggle to provide clean water and sanitation, so how can it be improved? Gillian Clayton and Dr Darren Reynolds at the University of the West of England explain cutting edge technology under development that can help turn river water into drinking water. Professor Tapan Dutta of the department of microbiology at the Bose Institute in Kolkata tells us about innovative sensors that monitor the quality of water. And we hear about some of the political and economic challenges that can hamper improvements in water quality from Virginia Newton-Lewis of WaterAid.
