Nasty C is arguably South Africa’s most successful rapper. Something of a child prodigy, he burst onto the scene when he was seventeen, and he was one of the first African hip hop artists to be signed to a major label. His thoughtful, relatable storytelling has continued to win him fans and acclaim at home and internationally. In this episode, Nasty C reflects on his musical journey so far, including a childhood marked by the death of his mother when he was just a baby, and his early discovery that for him, writing lyrics was the easiest way to express his feelings. Nasty C also talks about the profound impact becoming a dad has had on him, and explains why his new album is called Free.
