I`d agree with you Toby that you feel that you are privlidged to eat there, I can`t repeat all that is said but its true, its not value for money as i think most people would agree

This is a pricey establishment but if the food and service are excellent it is worth the price. It isn`t.Whilst the food and service were adequate our biggest complaint was the accoustics in the restaurant area. You could barely talk to and hear the person next to you. Hearing someone across the table was impossible.

I visited in January for a family birthday. Food was over priced and overrated..Staff were rude and my boyfriend was hit in the back of the head with a bottle of wine every time the waiter came to top the glasses up. I had the beef, which was amazing, as it should be for £25.00 however I could barley eat anything else on the plate. Cheese plate for dessert was good but again pricey.. People from the bar area also kept spilling over in to food area to sit near the windows when there wasn’t any room to do so... blocking your access to get in and out of your chair. Definitely ten bob millionaire country!!! Wouldn’t go again!

Thought I'd give Nonna's a try last weekend but was a bit cautious owing to people here saying it's overpriced, snooty, average etc. What a surprise it was then to find the best Italian food I've eaten outside Italy. I thought the menu was really imaginative - a great selection of dishes which steer clear of Italian restaurant cliches. The food was delicious. I only wish I had saved room for one of their dessert cocktails. I'll definitely be going back for the toblerone martini! As for the atmosphere, I found the staff welcoming and friendly. Not a snooty and clique place at all!

I went to Nonnas about a year ago and it was awful. The menu felt like it was the chef trying to show us how clever he was - there were no classics, rather bastardisations of other dishes with the best bit's removed. Also, the red wine was served too cold. When I commented, I was told that was the temperature it was supposed to be served at! I like red wine slightly below room temperature (particularly for Riojas), but not chilled. Not really anything positive to say about this place so I think I'll stop.

I really can't see what all the fuss is about Nonna's. It is cramped, and full of people who just want to be seen in the window - the Emperors New Clothes spring to mind here. The waitresses seem to think that they are the most important people in there, and seem more interested in being chatted up than doing there job. Ok, the coffee is good...........but no better than any other 'proper coffee' bar. I feel that this place has over extended itself and is heading for a fall when everyone realises it is all smoke and mirrors

Food very average and restaraunt cramped. Wine however was an excellent example. 24/06/05

We found the food very average, the service pleasant but the place smacks of an artificial air. London prices and more for a very unremarkable experience. We won't be returning. 08/06/05

WOW!!!
My husband and I went on saturday night and we started off our night in the new bar area, georgeous decor, fabulous cocktail menu and great nibblies. Then we went through to our table and had a great meal, the staff we're very friendly and attentive. You must must must leave room for deserts, they are heavenly. We will be returning many a times. 23/04/05

went in with my boyfriend for our anniversary and we were spoilt rotten! As it was our special day, the staff at the wine bar let us through to the super cosy prive' area. They offered us a glass of champers and some nibbles. 20/04/05

A very unpleasant eating experience. Rude, condescending staff and food that tastes like supermarket ready meals. Nice. 24/03/05

HOW can Nonna's be in the Posh Nosh section, I've eaten better at the side of a road !!!

I think Nonna's is in my top ten restaurants ever. The food is imaginative and gutsy , the tasting plate is always an adventure and the sweets sublime. I love the staff they are always very friendly and charming, the atmosphere is wonderful full of ladies who lunch (my favourite peoplle watching crowd) maybe this has been because I have only ever been to Nonna's at lunch and we always get a great table. I am based over in Leeds and always look forward to visiting nonna's when I am meeting clients in Sheffield I wish Leeds had a Nonna's and a Roney's. If there are better places in Sheffied then you are very lucky and I would love to know where they are.

I'm really surprsed with some of the recent reviews. Every time I've been to Nonna's the service and quality of food has been exquisite and the atmosphere is one of the best in Sheffield. OK it's pricey, but I'd rather have the occasional spectacular rather than the regular mediocrity. It's like being transported to the centre of Rome or Naples - an added bonus on a cold, damp night in South Yorks.

EXCELLENT LOCATION BUT FOOD INDIFFERENT AND OVERPRICED. LOOK SLIGHTLY FURTHER AFIELD FOR BETTER FOOD AND VALUE
Mr T!
I have to agree with the first reviewer!
having considered Nonnas for long enough, then reading The Independent top 10 italians review, which included Nonnas, we took the plunge!
We were sat near to the toilets on what I personally would think was a large coffee table(circular) there were 5 of us, and I felt distinctly crowded!
The food, average, nothing tremendous at all, and in my opinion very expensive for what it was.

I can't believe what has been written about this place. I have been to Nonna's three times now, always going back to see if i had just been on a bad day. Every time i have been the service is awful, the waitress sneers at you with every question asked. The food was distinctly average, and for the price you pay very expensive. Ecclesall Road is one of the trendier areas in Sheff but does thart justify £3.70 for a bottle of beer or a G&T, I don't think so.
This isn't just my view, I know a lot of people who have gone because of the reputation only to be let down.
BEWARE. Overpriced and Snooty.

We went on again on Saturday night having been a few times before....and I thought it was as fantastic as usual.
We had a mixed appetiser for 2 to share which was excellent, little tasters of all sorts. I had the risotto of the day which was delicious and perfectly cooked. The old man had sea bass and a crab risotto which he raved about. Puddings were again amazing - I had the chocolate, date and coffee pudding and he had a lemon cheescake.
I hate it when people smoke near me, but this is the ONLY restausrant in which I am prepared to put up with it and sit in the smoking area which has a great lively atmosphere.
I disagree about the cliquey vibe - I have never found this to be the case - and I certainly haven't been often enough for the staff to recognise me.
In my opinion, Nonna's is certainly one of the best restaurants in the area.

Agree with Toby above. I think that Nonnas is overpriced and overrated. The food is ok but is expensive and you get very little. It always annoys me when you get no vegetables, just a piece of garnished meat. I also think it serves the most expensive beer in sheffield at £2.25 for HALF of draught Peroni lager. I think people go there to feel sophisticated and mix with Sheffield's wealthy bunch. Nice atmosphere, Good food, very very poor value for money !!
