After a secret tour in Europe and the start of the UK tour in February, ex Libertine Carl Barat and his new band 鈥楧irty Pretty Things鈥 finally arrived at the Sugarmill in Stoke nearing the end of their sell out UK tour. The band has not yet released a single or an album but already they are a band to be reckoned with and already have a strong following. With their new single 鈥淏ang Bang Your Dead鈥 due to be released in April 06 their fan base can only get bigger. You knew it was going to be an electrifying gig! If you are short like me and did not get to see 鈥楧irty Pretty Things鈥 walk out on stage the crowd soon made you aware they were there. The band with their cigarettes perched in their guitars kicked off the gig with their downloadable track 鈥淒ead Wood鈥 and from that moment, you knew it was going to be an electrifying gig. Every song they played was lively, upbeat and more energetic than the previous and much to my surprise they sounded nothing like 鈥楾he Libertines鈥. The mosh pit went crazy With 鈥楧irty Pretty Things鈥 being fresh on the music scene, the majority of their tracks were new and up to now had yet to be heard by the crowd, however the mosh pit went crazy, cups went flying and the crowd surfers were out in force - in short the crowd went absolutely wild. The gig was so enjoyable it seemed to end before it had started, but judging by the sweat dripping off Carl and the rest of the band it truly looked like they had given their all time best. Finishing with 鈥淏ang Bang Your Dead鈥 The crowd sang, stamped, clapped and shouted for more, I have never seen anything quite like it, and being a band not to let their fans down they were soon back on the stage ready to perform once more. The gig finished with 鈥淏ang Bang Your Dead鈥 and judging by the response it will be a definite chart hit. During the gig 鈥楧irty Pretty Things鈥 sang three 鈥楲ibertines鈥 songs; 鈥淒eath on the Stairs鈥, 鈥淔rance鈥 and 鈥淚 Get Along鈥. By playing these tracks they added extra energy to the gig by letting the audience hear and go wild to songs they all know and love. Overall this has to be one of the most intense gigs I have 鈥楨VER鈥 been to, I鈥檓 not one to let my personal opinion be affected by hype, but the performance that 鈥楧irty Pretty Things鈥 gave leads me to believe they will be a band that will have a number of massive hits and will go places that 鈥楾he Libertines鈥 never quite made it to and all for the right reasons. |
