The Church of St. Andrews is well used by young and old alike!
By Fred Hall The Church provides more than worship and is open every day of the week. The day starts with a Mums and Toddlers and a Friday clinic. The office staff are on hand for enquiries.
St. Andrews Church is linked to St. Peter’s Church, Caverswall. There has been a Church on this site since 600A.D. It was originally a wooden structure but was built in about 1100 with an extension added in the 1700’s. The main entrance door has the date of 1650 cut into the wood, it is still in use but only for special occasions.
It contains a memorial figure of Dorothy Parker, the wife of Viscount Cape St. VincentÌý with who Lord Nelson served and learned his battle tactics.
The graves of the Catholic Nuns from nearby Caverswall Castle are buried over the wall of the Church within the Catholic Church grounds.
