Patrick had been an alcoholic for 30 years when he collapsed after a particularly heavy drinking session.
The experience led him to reflect on his life and he made the decision that he would give up the drink for himself and his own future. It was a defining moment for Patrick because he felt the 'drinking demon' leave his body there and then. He knew he wouldn't need alcohol any more.
