Ian is standing outside his local school. This is where his son will be sent. There's not much doubt about that - there is no other state school for 50 miles and there's a school bus that runs to it from his home every day. Is it grant maintained? He doesn't know, and he's not sure that he cares. It has an extremely beautiful view from the windows.
