This week Adam Walton meets Dr Mark Lewney, the "Rock Doctor" who promotes science through the study of the guitar.

Dr. Mark Lewney is a Cardiff- based physicist and musician who uses the guitar to communicate scientific concepts. Guitar in hand, Mark guides Adam through the physics behind the music, from the plucking and strumming of the strings, through the way harmonics work to effect of the stiffness of the wood that makes up the guitar. He even uses the insturment to introduce one of the most complex and hotly debated topics in physics: superstring theory.

Mark also discusses his day job is working at the Intellectual Property Office in Newport where he reviews telecommunications patent applications.
